Οι βρετανικές υπηρεσίες πληροφοριών παρακολουθούσαν για πολλά χρόνια ξένους διπλωμάτες χάρη στις κρατήσεις τους στα μεγάλα ξενοδοχεία, αναφέρει το γερμανικό περιοδικό Spiegel, επικαλούμενο πληροφορίες από τον πρώην σύμβουλο των αμερικανικών υπηρεσιών πληροφοριών Έντουαρντ Σνόουντεν.
Σύμφωνα με το γερμανικό περιοδικό, η βρετανική υπηρεσία ηλεκτρονικής συλλογής πληροφοριών GCHQ παρακολουθούσε για περισσότερο από τρία χρόνια τις κρατήσεις που γίνονταν σε τουλάχιστον 350 πολυτελή ξενοδοχεία ανά τον πλανήτη.

«Στόχος αυτού του προγράμματος ήταν να ενημερώνεται η GCHQ τη στιγμή της κράτησης για το όνομα της πόλης και το όνομα του ξενοδοχείου στο οποίο σκόπευε να διαμείνει ο ξένος διπλωμάτης» γράφει το Spiegel.

Σύμφωνα με δημοσίευμα της Globalpost η πρώην επικεφαλής του Στέιτ Ντιπάρτμεντ Μαντλίν Ολμπράιτ δήλωσε ότι και οι γαλλικές μυστικές υπηρεσίες την παρακολουθούσαν όταν εκείνη ήταν ενεργό μέλος της αμερικανικής διπλωματίας. «Σιγά την έκπληξη, οι χώρες κατασκοπεύουν η μία την άλλη» είπε η Ολμπράιτ μιλώντας στο Κέντρο Αμερικανικής Προόδου.
Η Ολμπράιτ η οποία υπήρξε πρεσβευτής των ΗΠΑ στον ΟΗΕ από το 1993 ως το 1997 προτού αναλάβει το Στέιτ Ντιπάρτμεντ, είπε ότι έμαθε από πρώτο χέρι ότι ήταν στο στόχαστρο των γαλλικών μυστικών υπηρεσιών όταν ήταν στα Ηνωμένα Εθνη.

The French president, Francois Hollande, condemned US spying on French citizens in a call with President Barack Obama, as a row escalated over US eavesdropping on millions of French phone calls.
Hollande's office said in a statement that he had expressed "deep disapproval of these practices, which are unacceptable between friends and allies because they infringe on the privacy of French citizens."

Snowden wants asylum in Russia, ready to meet condition not to damage US

NSA leaker & former CIA employee Edward Snowden has asked for political asylum in Russia, saying he could not fly to Latin America, according to Human Rights Watch representative who met the whistleblower.
According to Tatyana Lokshina of Human Rights Watch, Snowden seeks to stay in Russia as he “can’t fly to Latin America yet.”  
When asked if the NSA leaker has any more revelations, Lokshina responded: “He says that his job is done.”

‘Act of aggression’: Bolivia to file UN complaint over airspace blockade

‘An act of aggression and violation of international law’ is how Bolivia’s UN envoy described Austria’s decision to search the Bolivian presidential jet for NSA leaker Edward Snowden. The envoy has pledged to make an official complaint to the UN.
Envoy Sacha Llorentty Soliz told press in New York that he had no doubt the decision to search the plane originated from the US.


Austrian authorities grounded Bolivian President Evo Morales’ plane in Vienna early on Wednesday morning due to suspicions that NSA whistleblower Edward Snowden was on board. Morales refuted speculation that Snowden had stowed away on the plane and allowed authorities to conduct a search. 
"Our colleagues from the airport had a look and can give assurances that no one is on board who is not a Bolivian citizen," Austrian Deputy Chancellor Michael Spindelegger told press, saying rumors that Snowden might be on board were untrue.

MOSCOW, July 3 (RIA Novosti) – Bolivian President Evo Morales’s plane has been forced to land in Austria after France and Portugal refused to let the jet cross their airspace amid false rumors that US intelligence leaker Edward Snowden was on board, media cited the Bolivian foreign minister as saying.
Snowden, a former contractor for the US National Security Agency, is wanted by the United States for disclosing a top-secret surveillance program that allegedly targeted millions of Americans. He is believed to be in Moscow.
“We are told that there were some unfounded suspicions that Mr. Snowden was on the plane,” Bolivian Foreign Minister David Choquehuanca told journalists as quoted by the CNN.

HONG KONG: Former US intelligence technician Edward Snowden is en route from Hong Kong to Moscow heading to a third destination, the South China Morning Post reported Sunday.

"US whistleblower Edward Snowden has left Hong Kong on an Aeroflot flight to Moscow, credible sources have confirmed to the South China Morning Post," the newspaper, which has carried exclusive interviews with Snowden in Hong Kong, said in a brief report on its website.
