MANILA - The Philippines said it will ask an international arbitration tribunal to make a speedy ruling on its dispute with China over exploiting waters in the South China Sea after Beijing refused to take part in the proceedings.

Foreign Minister Albert del Rosario said Manila might also ask the United Nations arbitral court in The Hague to issue an order that would halt Chinese reclamation work in contested waters, such as on Johnson South Reef and Fiery Cross Reef in the Spratly archipelago.

Manila is seeking confirmation at the tribunal of its right to exploit waters in its 200-nautical mile exclusive economic zone as allowed under the U.N. Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS).

Τώρα που υπάρχει μεγάλη κινητικότητα για το θέμα της θέσπισης της ελληνικής ΑΟΖ, εμφανίζονται πολλοί να μας εξηγήσουν με τον δικό τους τρόπο ότι όλα αυτά που γίνονται είναι αποκλειστικά χάρη σε αυτούς. Βέβαια πολύ καλά κάνουν αφού οι περισσότεροι είναι άσχετοι με το θέμα. Όμως αυτό που έχει σημασία είναι η αλήθεια και αυτή είναι απλή. Ο πατέρας της ελληνικής ΑΟΖ είναι ο Θεόδωρος Καρυώτης. Ξέρουμε ότι είναι ένας καλός κι αγαθός άνθρωπος και δεν προσπαθεί να αναδείξει συνεχώς αυτήν την ιδιότητά του λόγω ταπεινοσύνης. Αλλά θέλουμε δεν θέλουμε αυτή είναι η πραγματικότητα και σε αυτό το πλαίσιο πρέπει να κινηθούμε όλοι όσοι παλεύουν για την ελληνική ΑΟΖ, το ίδιο βέβαια και οι εχθροί της ΑΟΖ και της υφαλοκρηπίδας.
