Harvard Study Shows Russian-speaking Ukrainians Backing Kyiv

A new study conducted at Harvard University suggests that Russian-speaking Ukrainians may be significantly more supportive of Kyiv’s standoff against Moscow and the pro-Russian separatists than has previously been reported.
The study, authored by researcher Bruce Etling at Harvard’s Berkman Center for Internet and Society, is one of the first serious explorations of Russian, Ukrainian and English language social media content regarding the turmoil there over the last eleven months.

Polls published in the United States in recent days show that nearly half of Americans see Hamas as responsible for the recent eruption of violence, and a majority believes that Israel's actions were justified.

In a Wall Street Journal/NBC News poll, 44 percent of respondents said they believed the IDF's actions were justified and were intended to defend Israel, while 34 percent said the United States should continue to favor Israel's interests over the Palestinians'. Fifty-three percent said the United States should treat both sides evenly, and 4 percent said the Palestinians should be favored.

Russia’s Defense Ministry has stated that “fake” satellite images of alleged shelling of Ukraine from Russian territory were created by US counselors “with close links to Ukraine’s Security Council.”

The authenticity of the images is impossible to prove, the ministry added.

The Defense Ministry stated that the images posted by the US ambassador Geoffrey Pyatt on his Twitter account, allegedly proving the shelling of Ukraine from Russian territory, are “fake,” ITAR-TASS reports.

Satellite images released by the US allegedly “proving” that Russia fired rockets at Ukrainian troops across the border cannot be considered evidence, according to a Russian MP.
The imagery was released via email, along with a four-page document titled 'Evidence of Russian Shelling into Ukraine.' Four satellite images were included, all dating between July 21 and July 25/26.
They were all posted on Twitter by the US ambassador to Ukraine, Geoffrey Pyatt, on Sunday. 


The US “lies about obvious things,” said Franz Klintsevich, deputy chairman of the Lower House's Defense Committee, as quoted by RIA Novosti.

United States officials have released satellite images (see below) they say show that Russia has fired rockets against Ukrainian forces in the last week, in support of separatist rebels.
The images, which were prepared by the Director of National Intelligence and forwarded to reporters by the State Department, show what the U.S. government says are multiple rocket launchers and self-propelled howitzers on Russian territory.
Others images show impact craters near military positions on the Ukrainian side of the border and what Washington says is Russian-supplied heavy weaponry being fired by separatists from within Ukraine between July 21 and July 26.

Russia says Washington disseminating "unfounded" accusation over Ukraine (to influence international opinion)

Russia said on Friday the United States was trying to influence international opinion through unfounded insinuations and anti-Russian rhetoric over the crisis in Ukraine.

"We deny the unfounded public insinuations that State Department Spokeswoman M. Harf repeats day after day," Russia's Foreign Ministry said in a statement on Friday.

"In journalistic briefings in previous days she has produced anti-Russian clichés that Washington stubbornly tries to impose on international opinion," the statement said.
