Erdogan condemns 'violence of French police'

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has condemned "the violence of French police against people who are using their right to protest".

Istanbul is on alert on the first anniversary of the massive Gezi protests May 31.

Calls were made for street action in the flashpoint area of Taksim Square, which was the heart of last year’s demonstrations.

But officials signaled that no demonstration would be allowed in Taksim and even in other parts of Istanbul, as the police ordered a sweeping deployment to crush any attempt of protest.

Σύμφωνα με έναν από τους δικηγόρους των εναγόντων στην δίκη, το διοικητικό δικαστήριο, με την απόφαση του που ελήφθη στις αρχές Ιουνίου, έκρινε ότι τα σχέδια ανάπλασης της πλατείας Ταξίμ, που πυροδότησαν μαχητικές κινητοποιήσεις σε όλη την Τουρκία, παραβιάζουν τη νομοθεσία για τα διατηρητέα, τους κανόνες σχετικά με την προστασία της ταυτότητας της πλατείας καθώς και μια σειρά άλλων διατάξεων.

Turkish police are continuing crackdown on protesters and apparently the press, which RT’s Tom Barton experienced first-hand when attacked by a water cannon. Social media are also flooded with pictures of the wounds from the police’s non-lethal force.
While covering a peaceful protest in Ankara, RT’s correspondent was sprayed by a water canon law enforcement vehicle in front of the cameramen and the crew.
