A Canadian soldier was shot at Ottawa's Canadian War Memorial and the shooter was seen running towards the nearby parliament buildings, where more shots were fired, according to media and eyewitness reports on Wednesday.

Sarajevo marks 100th anniversary of WWI assassination

Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) on Saturday marked the 100th anniversary since the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria, which lit the fuse for World War One(WWI).

The centerpiece was a concert performed by Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra in the City Hall, which just finished restoration since it was destroyed during the Bosnia War in 1990s.

The landmark building is just several minutes of walk from the Latin Bridge, which became famous over the assassination. On June 28, 1914, Franz Ferdinand, the heir to the throne of Austria-Hungary, was assassinated with his wife Sophie near Latin Bridge by Gavrilo Princip, a Bosnian Serb.

Alleged Chlorine Gas Attacks Focus Renewed Attention on Syria

WASHINGTON — The international organization overseeing the destruction of Syria’s chemical weapons is now focusing on investigating possible chlorine gas attacks in that country.

If proven, they would add another chapter into Syria’s long history of using chemical substances as weapons.

Under Western pressure, Syria has destroyed the vast majority of the chemical weapons arsenal declared by the Damascus government to be 1,300 metric tons.

Greg Thielmann, an expert on weapons of mass destruction with the Arms Control Association, said Syria’s arsenal contained different types of chemicals.

German FM urges understanding in foreign policy

Understanding is a fundamental condition of foreign policy, German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier told young Europeans on Friday when discussing the First World War.
