In his intervention on Syria at today’s EU Foreign Affairs Council, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Evangelos Venizelos referred, at the outset, to the need for the implementation of the UN Security Council resolution on confronting the humanitarian aspects of the crisis, as a human tragedy continues to unfold.

Mr. Venizelos then pointed to the need for an assessment of the impact of the crisis in Ukraine and in EU- and U.S.-Russian relations on the development of the Geneva II process and the mediation of Mr. Brahimi, with the aim of safeguarding the process.

55 percent of Serbian citizens in favour of EU membership. --EU membership will bring bigger investments

BELGRADE - The latest Medium Gallup opinion poll, which shows that 55 percent of Serbian citizens are in favour of the country's EU membership, will be presented in Belgrade on Friday.

According to the poll, conducted in February this year, 56 percent of the pollees believe that EU membership will bring bigger investments, 54 expect better environmental protection, with 50 percent expecting improved rule of law.

Two thirds of citizens - 67 percent - believe that agriculture tops the list of sectors that should receive EU assistance, the poll results say.

Nicaragua canal construction to begin in December.

President Manuel Ortega said on Saturday that the construction of a massive inter-oceanic canal in Nicaragua that could significantly alter global trade would start at the end of 2014.....

“The Nicaraguan government and HKND Group are pleased to confirm that canal construction work will begin as planned in December 2014,” Ortega announced alongside Chinese tycoon Wang Jing, whose group has secured the rights to dig and operate the waterway.
Ortega gave the Chinese group a concession to manage the future shipping channel for 50 years, with the possibility to renew the contract for another 50.

Many of my generation were born long before electricity had reached our rural areas and started our lives with many beautiful human values such as respect for self and for others, love and pride for family, religion and country. We were taught to live within our means. Very good values to build a truly better world to live in.
Our forefathers were living within their means and they never thought of going into the black hole of borrowing to have comfortable lives and let others pay their bills. They delivered to us economies debt-free or with minimal debts.
