Ο ανθρώπινος φόβος πηγάζει από τις φυσικές μας αδυναμίες και την ανεπάρκεια των ρυθμίσεων των ανθρώπινων σχέσεων στην οικογένεια, το κράτος, την κοινωνία. Με τις φυσικές αδυναμίες  μπορούμε να συμφιλιωθούμε, αφού δεν μπορούμε ούτε να κυριαρχήσουμε πάνω στη φύση, ούτε φυσικά να ακυρώσουμε τις συνέπειες του χρόνου στην υλική μας υπόσταση. Η γνώση των ορίων, η παιδεία και η αποδοχή της κοινής ανθρώπινης μοίρας, ίσως μπορούν να μας βοηθήσουν να αποτρέψουμε κάποιους φόβους και κάποιους άλλους να τους μετριάσουμε.

Τους πρώτους μήνες του 2010, όταν η κυβέρνηση του Γιώργου Παπανδρέου «προετοίμαζε» τον ελληνικό λαό για να αποδεχθεί αδιαμαρτύρητα την προσφυγή στον μηχανισμό του ΔΝΤ και της Ευρωπαϊκής Ενωσης, το βασικό επιχείρημα ήταν η δήθεν επερχόμενη στάση πληρωμών, που θα οδηγούσε με μαθηματική ακρίβεια στην πτώχευση. Είχαν υποστηρίξει, επίσης, ότι τα ταμεία του κράτους δεν θα είχαν χρήματα για να πληρωθούν οι συντάξεις και οι μισθοί των κρατικών υπαλλήλων.
