Russia welcomes Turkey’s ‘Montreux assurance’

Russia welcomes Turkey’s assurances of commitment to the Montreux Convention, Foreign Ministry spokesman Alexander Lukashevich said April 14 amid the ongoing tension in Ukraine.

“Russia has noted with satisfaction Turkey’s statement that it will continue, just as it has been doing over the past 78 years, to comply with the Montreux Convention, which makes a significant contribution to the security of the Black Sea states,” Lukashevich said in a statement, Russian news agency Itar-Tass reported.

Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoğlu said over the weekend that Turkey “would never allow the violation of the Montreux Convention whatsoever.”

Per 90 minuti, sabato scorso, un caccia russo ha volato molto basso sul livello dell'acqua, quasi sfiorando una nave da guerra Usa Donald Cook, che si trova in acque internazionali del Mar Nero sin dal 10 aprile. Lo si legge in un tweet della Ap in cui si sottolinea che tutto si è risolto senza incidenti.
Un alto funzionario militare americano ha raccontato all'Ap che un caccia russo, sabato scorso, è volato più volte passando molto vicino a una nave da guerra Usa, la Donald Cook, un cacciatorpediniere di stanza nel Mar Nero, nelle acque territoriali davanti alle coste rumene. Il volo è durato circa 90 minuti, nelle ore in cui tornava altissima la tensione in tutta la regione.
