The UN General Assembly adopted a resolution of Arab countries calling for an immediate truce in the Palestinian-Israeli conflict zone.
120 countries voted for the resolution, 14 were against, and 45 abstained.
Earlier, Jordan and more than 40 other countries prepared a draft resolution of the UN General Assembly on the situation around Israel and the Gaza Strip. According to the resolution the UN General Assembly condemns violence aimed at Palestinian and Israeli civilians. The text calls for an immediate, reliable, sustainable humanitarian truce leading to a cessation of hostilities. The document also calls for "the immediate, unconditional release of civilians illegally held captive."
The resolution also requires all parties to comply with obligations under humanitarian law, in particular with regard to the protection of civilians and civilian objects. According to the GA text, the UN demands immediate, sustained and unimpeded delivery of necessary goods and services in the Gaza Strip. The document calls for immediate unhindered access to Gaza for UNRWA staff and other humanitarian aid workers. The document also contains a call to cancel Israel's order for Gazans and UN troops to move to the south of the strip.
The resolution also notes the urgent need to establish a mechanism to ensure the protection of Palestinian civilians in accordance with international law and relevant UN resolutions.

Jordanian Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi has condemned Israel’s ground operation in the Gaza Strip.

Al-Qassam Brigades are resisting Israeli soldiers near Beit Hanoun in the north-eastern Gaza Strip, the Palestinian Hamas movement said.

The United States, Israel, Austria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Fiji, Guatemala, Hungary, Israel, Marshall Islands, Micronesia, Nauru, Papua New Guinea, Paraguay and Tonga all voted against the Jordanian-introduced resolution.
