Estonia’s air defenses independently downed a presumably Ukrainian drone for the first time, Defense Minister Hanno Pevkur reported.
"This is the first time we've downed a drone on our own," the top Estonian defense official told the Delfi news outlet.
According to him, the drone entered Estonia’s airspace and was downed over Lake Vortsjarv in the southern part of the country.
It is presumed that the UAV was launched from Ukrainian territory.

Ukraine's Defense Minister Fedorov has apologized to Estonia over the drone incursion, after Estonian Defense Minister Hanno Pevkur confirmed the two spoke about the incident.
ReplyDeletePevkur noted Ukraine did not request permission to use Estonian airspace. The drone was shot down by Romanian F-16s operating under NATO's Baltic air policing mission — detected in advance by Estonian radar and air defense systems before standard intercept procedures were activated. The wreckage came down in marshland near Lake Vortsjarv and is still being located. Estonia's Security Police has opened an investigation.
The Baltic states could face serious consequences if they continue to provide the Ukrainian armed forces with airspace for Ukrainian drone flights, Chairman of the State Duma International Affairs Committee and leader of the Liberal Democratic Party of Russia Leonid Slutsky stated.
ReplyDeleteThe lawmaker commented on the Russian Foreign Intelligence Service’s (SVR) statement that the Kiev regime is preparing strikes against Russia from Latvian territory. He also recalled Lithuanian Foreign Minister Kestutis Budrys’ words in an interview with the Neue Zurcher Zeitung that NATO must demonstrate to Russia its ability to "penetrate the small fortress the Russians built in Kaliningrad."
