Oil prices jump as Trump rejects Iran’s offer to end war

Oil prices have increased following Trump’s rejection of Iran’s response to Washington’s proposal to end the war.

The international benchmark for oil, Brent crude, was up by 2.69 percent to $104.01 a barrel by 23:36 GMT on Sunday, extending a 1.23 percent gain on Friday.

  1. US President Donald Trump called Iran's response to the US proposal to resolve the conflict unacceptable.

    "I have just read the response from Iran’s so-called "Representatives." I don’t like it - totally unacceptable! Thank you for your attention to this matter," he wrote on Truth Social.

    In an interview with Axios, Trump also said he disliked the Iranian response.

  2. President Donald Trump has rejected Iran's response to a US proposal for peace talks to end the war, as two ships were allowed to pass through the blockaded Strait of Hormuz.

    "I have just read the response from Iran's so-called 'representatives'. I don’t like it - TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE," Mr Trump posted on Truth Social, without giving further ⁠detail.

    Iranian state media said the response focused on ending th ewar on all fronts, especially Lebanon, and on the safety of shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, without indicating how or when the vital waterway might reopen.

  3. Iran’s semi-official Tasnim news agency said Tehran's proposal included an immediate end to the war on all fronts, a halt to the US naval blockade, guarantees of no further attacks on Iran and the lifting of sanctions on Iran, including a US ban on Iranian oil sales.

    The Wall Street Journal quoted unnamed sources saying Iran proposed diluting some of its highly enriched uranium and transferring the remainder to a third country.
