Eight U.S. Marines were injured on September 14 when an Iranian cruise missile struck the vessel they were operating in the Strait of Hormuz, NBC News reports, citing three U.S. officials.
The service members did not sustain serious injuries and all returned to duty shortly after the attack, though they suffered from smoke inhalation and possibly traumatic brain injuries, as they exhibited symptoms of concussion.
The sources noted that the Marines were not on a U.S. Navy ship at the time of the attack and declined to specify the type of vessel involved.
