German Chancellor Friedrich Merz risks losing his post as early as this coming weekend - Politico

Ahead of two crucial state elections taking place this Sunday in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania and Berlin (where Merz’s center-right Christian Democratic Union risks a painful defeat), senior party members are privately discussing the need for a so-called "Kanzlertausch", a change of chancellor, the publication reports.

According to the report, this is being viewed as a way to halt the government's plummeting approval ratings.

Politico analyzed five scenarios for the unfolding political crisis in Germany and assessed the likelihood of each.
