Polish opposition leader accuses Kyiv of trying to drag the country into the conflict

Jarosław Kaczyński, leader of Poland's main opposition party, Law and Justice, accused Ukraine of attempting to directly involve Warsaw in the conflict with Russia, even going so far as to propose merging the two countries into a single state, local media reported. 

Speaking at the "Youth for the Poland of Tomorrow" congress held in Augustów over the weekend, Kaczyński discussed the evolution of bilateral relations.

 He revealed that, during the early stages of the conflict, Kyiv proposed initiatives to Poland that his country deemed unacceptable.

"The Ukrainians sometimes expected things that we, for various reasons I cannot mention, could not provide. Generally, however, we managed to find a way forward to maintain good Polish-Ukrainian relations," he stated.

The opposition leader maintained that Kyiv subsequently altered its strategy regarding Warsaw. "It seems to me that, initially, they had a somewhat peculiar idea of ​​dragging us into this war, even going so far as to propose the creation of a single state. Zelenskyy's speech in the Sejm [Polish Parliament] pointed precisely in that direction," Kaczynski asserted.
