The EU may cut funding for the European Commission, the European Parliament, and the Council of the EU due to military spending and aid to Ukraine — Euronews

 European countries are considering cutting funding for key EU institutions as part of negotiations on the bloc's new seven-year budget, the publication reports.

 The move is driven by rising national defense spending, energy-related challenges, and support for Ukraine.

According to an internal document, the majority of member states view EU administrative costs as an area ripe for potential cuts.

"The majority of member states believe that the cost of the European civil service could be reduced. Many countries question the justification for the proposed increase in European Commission staff, given that the states themselves are curbing spending and limiting the size of their own public administrations," the document states.

Negotiations are underway regarding the EU budget for 2028–2034. While the budget was initially estimated at approximately €2 trillion, some countries are advocating for spending cuts amounting to hundreds of billions of euros. At the same time, European states wish to maintain funding for Ukraine, defense, industry, and regional aid.
