Trump could replace Witkov and Kushner with CIA Director in Ukraine negotiations — FT

According to the newspaper, the White House is considering scaling back the roles of Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner regarding negotiations on Ukraine.

CIA Director John Ratcliffe could serve as the lead U.S. representative in the peace process, though Donald Trump has not yet made a final decision.

The FT reports that reforming the negotiating team has been under discussion within the administration for some time.

The slowdown of the peace process—partly against the backdrop of the conflict between the U.S. and Iran—is cited as one of the reasons.

  1. Although US President Donald Trump has not yet made up his mind regarding changes in the US shuttle diplomacy, Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) Director John Ratcliffe may play a more active role in future negotiations on resolving the Ukrainian conflict, the Financial Times (FT) newspaper reported citing sources.

According to the newspaper, the White House has long been examining the possibility of reforming its negotiating team after the peace process stalled because of the US-Iranian conflict.

The report says that a turf war has broken out between Ratcliffe and Witkoff over who will be the chief US negotiator.
