Demonstrations have been announced in nearly 30 cities across the country, including Berlin, Hamburg, Cologne, Frankfurt, and Munich, according to the DPA news agency.
The organizer is the movement “Gen Z regelt” (“Generation Z decides”), which was inspired by recent youth protests in France, accompanied by mass riots, arson, and looting.
Participants are demanding a reduction in the cost of living, increased spending on education, social assistance, and healthcare, and are also protesting against the reduction of social programs, the introduction of mandatory military service, and the increase in military spending.
Against the backdrop of events in France, German authorities fear possible riots. According to the German Ministry of the Interior, individual left-wing radical and extremist groups have joined the mobilization of participants. Brandenburg Interior Minister Jan Redmann believes that the date of the protests was chosen deliberately - on Halloween, it is easier for participants to hide their faces behind masks.
Media reports indicate that in Berlin, shop windows have already begun to be reinforced ahead of the protests.
