Mass unrest continues in France

Clashes between protesters and police have broken out in Paris, Lyon, Marseille, Rennes, Toulouse, and Angers.

Masked demonstrators are setting fires, smashing up shops, erecting barricades, and hurling pyrotechnics at police. Security forces are responding with tear gas and water cannons.

In Lyon, a tourist office was set on fire. In Marseille, several dozen protesters stormed the city hall, shouting, "This is a revolution! We’re taking the Bastille!" In the same city, a police station was ransacked and a shop was set ablaze.

The protests, sparked by the rising cost of living, high fuel prices, and cuts to public spending, involve schoolchildren, university students, members of the "Yellow Vests" movement, trade unions, and farmers.

According to the French publication Le Parisien, the French Interior Ministry has accused far-left groups of orchestrating the unrest. Marseille Mayor Benoît Payan described the situation as unacceptable, stating that rioters are using the protests to destroy urban infrastructure.
