Pedro Sánchez dissolves Parliament and calls early elections amidst the housing crisis

Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez announced on Monday that the general election would be brought forward to November 29 following the rejection of housing decrees in Congress.

"I have decided to call an extraordinary meeting of the Council of Ministers this very morning to dissolve the Cortes Generales and call a general election to be held on Sunday, November 29, in accordance with the legally established timeframes," Sánchez said in his statement.

He justified the decision by citing the "dissatisfaction" and indignation felt by a segment of society over the fact that "the interests of ordinary people are being trampled upon in Parliament for the benefit of a few."
