Tanker turned back in Hormuz after being hailed by IRGC: UKMTO

An oil tanker transiting the Strait of Hormuz was hailed by Iran’s IRGC and instructed to turn back or risk being targeted.

UK Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) said the incident occurred 20km (11 nautical miles) north of Khasab, Oman. The tanker’s captain complied with the IRGC’s order, the UKMTO said.

The incident occurred as shipping through the Strait of Hormuz remains severely disrupted. Iran in effect has blocked the strait after the US-Israel war began on February 28 and has frequently attacked commercial ships.
