Police in France have been temporarily banned from using stun grenades against demonstrators

This was done "as a preventive measure" pending an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the injury of a teenager in Lens, reports the TF1 Info TV channel. Previously, a schoolboy there lost his hand due to the explosion of a police grenade.

Footage is circulating online showing police using pepper spray against students and throwing stun grenades at them. One teenager was struck in the face by a tear gas canister, resulting in a double jaw fracture and knocked-out teeth.

Lawmakers from across the political spectrum have criticized Macron  for the violent suppression of the protests.
