UKMTO warns of underreported maritime attacks as Hormuz transits remain 70 percent below pre-war levels

The United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) says 12 attacks were reported in its latest weekly reporting period: 10 in the Strait of Hormuz, one in the Gulf and one in the Gulf of Oman.

Of the vessels involved, six continued their journeys or reached port, one was lost, and two were disabled or not under command. Damage or outcomes remained unconfirmed in three cases, according to the overview published on October 16.

UKMTO warned it was struggling to establish the true number of attacks because most vessels attacked were refusing to report incidents to the agency. Reports received through other sources could not always be verified.

Combined inbound and outbound transits through Hormuz remained about 70 percent below pre-war levels, it said, cautioning that US-reported facilitated transit figures could not be independently verified.
