US rejects IRGC claims that Strait of Hormuz is closed and under Iran’s control

US Central Command (CENTCOM) says claims made by Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) that the Strait of Hormuz is closed and controlled by Tehran are “false”.

In a post on X, CENTCOM said that traffic carrying commercial goods and energy supplies – including 20 million barrels of crude oil – was flowing through the strait “right now”.

“The United States and regional partners clearly control the strait,” the statement said.

The rebuke comes in response to comments by Mohammadreza Naqdi, an adviser to the IRGC commander, to the semi-official Fars news agency on Wednesday reiterating Tehran’s position on the strategic waterway.

He also said that transit routes deemed illegal by Iran would soon be closed.
