Axios: U.S. puts forces on alert for possible new attacks against Iran

The Pentagon has ordered U.S. Central Command to prepare for the resumption of combat operations against Iran, although U.S. President Donald Trump has reportedly not yet made a final decision or set a date, Axios reports, citing U.S. officials.

According to the report, the new phase of operations could involve massive airstrikes against Iranian energy targets, infrastructure, or nuclear facilities. U.S. and Israeli sources indicated that the operations could take place before the U.S. midterm elections, scheduled for November 3, and possibly before the Israeli elections.

Trump's national security team met last Friday at Camp David to discuss the war and other matters. An Israeli official stated that a possible resumption of operations was discussed, while negotiations between Washington and Tehran remain at a standstill.
