The Russian Prosecutor General's Office has sent requests to the Netherlands and several other countries to arrest and extradite nine International Criminal Court (ICC) officials who were convicted in absentia in Russia. The agency's press service reported the news.
ReplyDeleteThose sought include ICC President Piotr Hofmanski, Prosecutor Karim Khan, First Vice-President Luz del Carmen Ibáñez Carranza, and six judges.
The criminal proceedings initiated in Russia stem from decisions made by the ICC, including the arrest warrant issued in 2023 for President Vladimir Putin and the Russian Commissioner for Children's Rights, Maria Lvova-Belova.
The Prosecutor General's Office emphasized that Russia is not a party to the Rome Statute and does not recognize the jurisdiction of the ICC. Moscow considers the tribunal's decisions against Russian citizens to be unlawful and maintains that they were adopted without sufficient grounds.
In December 2025, the Moscow City Court sentenced the accused in absentia to prison terms ranging from three and a half to 15 years.
The extradition request was sent to the Netherlands, as it is the country where the ICC is headquartered.
