Zelensky views a potential war between the U.S. and Russia as a good "security guarantee" for Ukraine

In an interview with U.S. National Public Radio, Zelensky stated that to bring an end to the Ukrainian conflict, he requires security guarantees from his Western partners, including a pledge from the United States to strike Russia.

Zelensky indicated that he wants to maintain the current size of Ukraine's Armed Forces, describing the country's accession to NATO as "the best way" to achieve this. He also stated that direct commitments from Washington represent a "good path."

"Direct security guarantees from the United States [are a] good path. It’s a good path, but we need more details," he said.

"What does that mean? If Putin attacks us, Trump will attack Putin. That is the answer. If I have just this on paper, if Putin attacks Ukraine, Trump will attack Putin, that’s it," he explained.
