“Because certain extreme circles are playing ignorant or surprised, as if they had just learned now – from the Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister’s speech to the 69th UN General Assembly – of the country’s stance on the FYROM name issue, it is useful to make the following reminder:

Greece’s position in favor of a compound name, with a geographical qualifier before the word “Macedonia”, and not before the word “Republic”, to be used in relation to everyone (erga omnes), for all uses, domestic and international, has been thus formulated for many years now and has been stated repeatedly in the Hellenic Parliament as well as internationally, in multilateral and bilateral meetings. It is based on this position that the Greek representative participates in the UN process under Mr. Nimetz

During yesterday’s working dinner of NATO Foreign Ministers, in Brussels, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Evangelos Venizelos had the opportunity, as the Presidency of the Council of the European Union, to brief his counterparts on the European accession course of Montenegro and to reiterate Greece’s positions on the FYROM issue, underscoring the international dimension of the issue and the need to resolve the name issue, with the mediation of Mr. Nimetz, within the framework of the UN process. Below is the relevant statement made by Mr. Venizelos:

Η απάντηση του πρωθυπουργού στην ΠΓΔΜ - Σαμαράς: 18 χρόνια είναι πολλά κ. Γκρούεφσκι

Σε αρκετά αιχμηρό ύφος απάντησε ο πρωθυπουργός Αντώνης Σαμαράς στον ομόλογό του της ΠΓΔΜ Νίκολα Γκρούεφσκι και στα όσα πρότεινε και ανέφερε σε επιστολή με θέμα την ονομασία της γειτονικής χώρας. 

Όπως επισημαίνει ο πρωθυπουργός η πρόταση του Γκρουέφσκι για ορισμό δύο νέων διαπραγματευτικών ομάδων με πολιτική εντολή δεν προσφέρει “προστιθέμενη αξία” στην υπάρχουσα διαδικασία, δεδομένου ότι η Ελλάδα έχει ήδη παράσχει “πλήρη πολιτική εντολή” στον εκπρόσωπό της Πρέσβυ κ. Βασιλάκη και τονίζει ότι η Ελλάδα ήδη έκανε ορισμένες ενδεικτικές κινήσεις καλής θέλησης - όπως όταν συμφώνησε στην απόδοση του καθεστώτος υποψήφιας χώρας στην ΠΓΔΜ.

Τη θέση ότι η ΠΓΔΜ θα ενταχθεί στο ΝΑΤΟ αφού πρώτα επιλυθεί το ζήτημα της ονομασίας επανέλαβε ο βοηθός του γ.γ. της Συμμαχίας, αρμόδιος για πολιτικές υποθέσεις και την πολιτική ασφάλειας Ντίρκ Μπρένγκελμαν.
Μετά από συνάντηση που είχε στα Σκόπια με τον υπουργό Εξωτερικών της ΠΓΔΜ, Νίκολα Πόποσκι, ο αξιωματούχος του ΝΑΤΟ υπογράμμισε ότι παραμένει σε ισχύ η απόφαση του Βουκουρεσίου, η οποία επιβεβαιώθηκε και στην τελευταία Σύνοδο Κορυφής της Συμμαχίας στο Σικάγο σχετικά με τη φιλοδοξία της ΠΓΔΜ να καταστεί μέλος της.

Ακόμη, ο κ. Μπρένγκελμαν σημείωσε ότι το ΝΑΤΟ ενδιαφέρεται και για άλλα μείζονα ζητήματα στην ΠΓΔΜ, όπως η λειτουργία κράτους δικαίου, η απρόσκοπτη λειτουργία της δικαιοσύνης, τα θέματα σχετικά με την ελευθερία του Τύπου και η πλήρης εφαρμογή της ειρηνευτικής συμφωνίας της Οχρίδας για τη διευθέτηση των διεθνοτικών σχέσεων στη χώρα.

FYROM NEWS: The F. Y. R. of M.: Reforms continue despite political tensions (17/04/2013)

The European Commission issued today a report on the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia's progress in implementing EU-related reforms and on steps taken on good neighbourly relations and on the 'name issue', as requested by the Council last December. The Commission commends continued reform efforts despite recent political tensions, and highlights the pressing challenge of keeping the momentum for political dialogue so that the effects of the political crisis can be fully overcome. Overall, the implementation of EU-related reforms in the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia has continued, with progress on almost all the targets and indicators. Relations with neighbours remained good, and steps have been taken in bilateral relations with Bulgaria and Greece[1]. Formal talks on the 'name issue' also took on new momentum during the reporting period.

EU envoy apologises for calling (F.Y.R.O.M.'s slavic ethnic citizens) ‘Slavs'

At the request of the president of FYROM, the EU Ambassador in Skopje apologised yesterday (19 November) for having called the majority of the country’s population “Slavs”, a development that could harm efforts to find a solution to FYROM’s name dispute with Greece.

EU Ambassador Aivo Orav made a statement in an attempt to calm accusations that the EU was denying FYROM's the right of self-determination. President Gjorge Ivanov asked the EU envoy to apologise, local media reported.
Orav spoke last Thursday to the European Parliament's foreign relations committee in Brussels, using the term “Slav Macedonians” to describe the majority of the country’s population.

The European Council this December should extend a start date for FYROM's EU membership talks, the European Parliament rapporteur on FYROM Richard Howitt said.
“This country has reached a point when negotiations should be opened," Howitt said in FYROM.
"All of my efforts and energy are focused on the attempt at finding real compromises in Brussels in order for membership talks with the EU to start," Howitt added.

South Korea criticises Apple, Google over naming of disputed islands

South Korea has criticized Apple and Google for inconsistencies over the naming of a group of disputed islets, in their mapping services. Apple’s Korean-language map retains the Korean name "Dokdo". But its Japanese service uses the Japanese name, "Takeshima".
Meanwhile, Google has carried out the same move, but also replaced "Dokdo" with a third name for non-Korean and Japanese browsers.

Foreign Minister Nikola Poposki held Monday (24/9/12) talks with his Greek counterpart Dimitris Avramopoulos at the UN Headquarters!!!! in New York. Both ministers concurred that during the two-decade name dispute relations have changed significantly.

Members of the FYROM's delegation describe the meeting – the first one between the two ministers – as a chance to get to know each other. On its part, fFYROM urged the interim agreement and the judgement of the International Court of Justice in the Hague to be respected. The Hague court ruled that Greece cannot block FYROM’s integration processes.

The Greek and FYROM's foreign ministers, Dimitris Avramopoulos and Nikola Poposki, are to meet next Thursday in New York in an attempt to invigorate stalled 'name' talks.
The two ministers will meet at the sidelines of the UN General Assembly, where Greece is expected to urge more active UN involvement in the talks held under its auspices.

“I am glad that the Greek side has answered the initiative for more meetings. Greece is asking for greater involvement of the UN. This means that our messages are bearing fruit”, Minister Poposki said, confirming the meeting.

Επαναλειτουργία ιστολογίων ΕΛ ΕΘΝΟΣ στο WordPress

Μετά την πρόσφατη διόρθωση  σε FYROM(εικ.1) της ονομασίας της χώρας των Σκοπίων στο WordPress τα ιστολόγια "ΕΛ ΕΘΝΟΣ" συνεχίζουν την λειτουργία τους εκεί.
 Η λειτουργία τους είχε ανασταλεί από τις 8 Μαρτίου 2012, όταν σε αναβάθμιση των στατιστικών της παραπάνω παγκόσμιας πλατφόρμας φιλοξενίας εμφανίστηκε η ονομασία μιας ανύπαρκτης για την Ελλάδα χώρας με όνομα "Μακεδονία"(εικ. 2). Η λανθασμένη αναγραφή της ονομασίας συνεχίζονταν μέχρι πρόσφατα παρά τις πιθανές αντιδράσεις και από άλλους Έλληνες blogers, που φιλοξενούσαν ιστολόγια τους στο WordPress.
Το τι συνέβη και αποφασίστηκε να διορθωθεί η αυθαιρεσία σύμφωνα με  το Διεθνές Δίκαιο και τον χάρτη του ΟΗΕ όσον αφορά την ονομασία της FYROM, σε ότι εμφανίζεται στις συνδέσεις από Ελλάδα,  είναι άγνωστο. Θα είναι όμως υπερβολικό να υποστηριχθεί ότι είναι αποτέλεσμα ενεργειών ενός μόνου ατόμου. Κάποτε θα πρέπει να σταματήσουμε να φανταζόμαστε ήρωες αδικώντας συστηματικά της αξία την συλλογικότητας.....

In an unusually strongly worded statement, Athens has accused FYROM' s Prime Minister Nikola Gruevski of abusing the visit of the UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon to spread “agitprop” against Greece.

A Greek spokesman appered to pour cold water on hopes that the UN chief's visit to FYROM might inject new momentum into stalled Greece-FYROM talks on a solution to the "name" dispute.

At Wednesday's meeting with Ban Ki-moon in Skopje, Gruevski reiterated that he was ready to back fresh UN-led “name” talks with Greece.

Ban Ki-moon's visit this month is stirring speculation about new initiatives in the dispute over FYROM's name - though few expect the fact-finding trip to result in a breakthrough.

Ban Ki-moon arrives in Skopje on 25 July as part of a tour of Western Balkan countries from July 19 to 26.

He has said that he will be accompanied in Skopje by his mediator in the "name" dispute, US diplomat Matthew Nimetz.

“This name issue continues for too long”, Ki-moon said recently, urging Greece and FYROM to show more “flexibility” in reaching a solution.

Σκοπιανό: Μια ακόμα χαμένη ευκαιρία....

Εδώ και μερικά χρόνια εισέρχονταν στον ελληνικό χώρο φορτηγά αυτοκίνητα με το αυτοκόλλητο ΜΚ (Μακεδονία) δίχως την αντίστοιχη επικόλληση του ακυρωτικού FYROM από τις αρχές στα σύνορα. Τα ΙΧ και τουριστικά ήταν ελάχιστα.

 Τα τελευταία όμως δυο χρόνια πλήθος ΙΧ και τουριστικών λεωφορείων εισέρχονται από τα σύνορα με εμφανή τα διακριτικά ΜΚ (Μακεδονία). 

Ιδίως αυτό το καλοκαίρι με την εφαρμογή της ενσωμάτωσης  των διακριτικών ΜΚ στις ίδιες τις πινακίδες από 20-2-2012.
