French foreign minister calls on Israel to arrest settlers who assaulted French mayor

French Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot has called on Israel’s government to arrest Israeli settlers who assaulted a French mayor who was visiting the village of Taybeh in the occupied West Bank.

Barrot said Bernard Baudoux, the mayor of Aulnoye-Aymeries, was “violently assaulted by extremist settlers in the West Bank.”

Israeli authorities “must urgently put an end to this criminal violence and ensure the safety of the civilian population,” Barrot added in a social media post on Saturday.
