Greek government to sell 1500 properties belonging to tax evaders

Greek tax authorities are preparing to sell, through an online auction, 1500 villas in tourist resorts in the country, such as Santorini, Rhodes, Kos, Porto Heli, Paros, Mykonos and others, because their owners have not complied with their tax obligations.

After having exhausted all relevant stages, from notice to seizure, the next step for the Operational Collection Unit and the Recovery Control Center for Taxpayers with Great Riches, is auctions in order to enable the Greek government to collect taxes from the wealthy who are hiding from tax authorities.

Japan hopes for early, peaceful resolution to Ukraine crisis

Japanese Deputy Prime Minister Taro Aso* said Tuesday that he hopes the current impasse between some Western nations and Russia over the latter's move in Ukraine will be settled quickly and peacefully.

Aso, who also serves as finance minister, said that Japan is monitoring the situation in Ukraine closely with hopes for an early and peaceful resolution.

In a previous telephone conversation with US Treasury Secretary Jacob Lew, Aso said that Japan will cooperate with other Group of Seven members and assist as best it could in the Ukraine situation, but Aso intimated that the circumstances were extremely intricate.

'Time to make Greek landlords pay': finance minister, Yannis Stournaras

AFP - Greek Finance Minister Yannis Stournaras vowed Sunday to press on with a controversial plan to raise property taxes on large estates, saying "the time has come to make the landlords pay".
In exchange for billions in bailout loans, Greece's coalition government has been imposing a series of draconian reforms, including spending cuts and higher tax levies.

Discussions with its creditors are to resume this week over a new batch of reforms due to be undertaken -- including the plan to raise property tax on estates worth more than 300,000 euros ($400,000).

Nach Informationen der F.A.Z. rechnet das Finanzministerium mit einem Steuerplus von insgesamt 16 Milliarden Euro bis 2017. Während der Bund nur gering profitieren wird, dürfen sich die Gemeinden über Mehreinnahmen freuen.

Das Bundesfinanzministerium rechnet mit Mehreinnahmen von insgesamt 16 Milliarden Euro für die öffentlichen Haushalte bis einschließlich zum Jahr 2017. Vergleichsgröße ist die Steuerschätzung vom Mai. Was darüber liegt, kann genutzt werden, um das Defizit zu verringern oder Mehrausgaben zu finanzieren.

Wealthy Greeks fearing attacks by anarchist groups will no longer be entitled to free police bodyguards in the latest cost-cutting plan from a government trying to meet budget targets set by international creditors.
The Public Order Ministry said on Tuesday that individuals with a net income of more than 100,000 euros ($132,500) a year will have to pay for their own police protection from potential terrorist and organised crime attacks. 

 Under the plan, they will have to pay 2,000 euros ($2,650) per month for each officer acting as a bodyguard and a daily fee of 50 euros for use of a patrol car.

Greece meets deficit-cutting goals during 2012: finance ministry

ATHENS, Feb. 4 (Xinhua) -- Greece continued successfully deficit-cutting efforts and met fiscal discipline goals set for 2012 on the path to recovery from a severe debt crisis, the Greek Finance Ministry announced on Monday.
The Greek state managed to reduce by 34.6 percent on a year-on-year basis the general government deficit from 19.7 billion euros (26.8 billion U.S. dollars) in 2011, which accounted for 9.4 percent of GDP, to 12.9 billion euros in 2012, 6.6 percent of GDP, the ministry said in a press release.
When the crisis started in late 2009 threatening the country with a chaotic bankruptcy and a possible exit from the eurozone, the deficit was more than 15 percent of GDP.

Greece’s European Union partners are sending in reinforcements to help in the battle to reorganize the country’s tax collection mechanism, aimed at improving state revenues and combating tax evasion.
Tax experts from Spain, France, the Netherlands, Sweden and Belgium have already arrived in Greece and are helping the country’s tax authorities to locate pockets of tax evasion and come up with ways of monitoring categories of professionals who are seen as more likely not to declare their full income.

Kritik an Ex-Finanzminister: Griechen wollen Cousinen-Connection aufklären

Der Fall ist mysteriös. Erst verschwindet eine griechische Steuersünder-Datei, dann taucht sie wieder auf - doch plötzlich fehlen auf der Liste die Verwandten des früheren Finanzministers. Nun will das Parlament in Athen die Sache aufklären: Der Ex-Politiker muss vor einen Untersuchungsausschuss.
Eine Datei mit 2062 mutmaßlichen griechischen Steuersündern verschwindet und taucht erst nach zwei Jahren wieder auf - leicht frisiert, wie sich herausstellt. Nun soll sich ein parlamentarischer Untersuchungsausschuss des Falls annehmen. Das Gremium muss klären, ob sich der frühere griechische Finanzminister Giorgos Papakonstantinou strafbar gemacht hat.

Το δικαστήριο απέρριψε επίσης τις νέες μεθόδους για τον υπολογισμό του φόρου περιουσίας.

Griechenland: Ex-Finanzminister in Steuerskandal verwickelt?

Steuerskandale ohne Ende in Griechenland: Mehreren Medienberichten zufolge soll eine Datei mit 2062 Namen mutmaßlicher Steuersünder manipuliert worden sein. Pikant: Die Namen von Verwandten des früheren Finanzministers Giorgos Papakonstantinou soll jemand aus der Liste gelöscht haben, heißt es!
Hintergrund:
Der USB-Stick mit der Datei war Anfang 2010 von der damaligen französischen Finanzministerin Christine Lagarde an den damaligen Finanzminister Papakonstantinou übergeben worden. Er hatte sie anschließend an den damaligen Chef der Steuerfahndung in Griechenland weitergegeben.

Greek prosecutors have issued a warrant for the arrest of one of the country’s top journalists, after his publication Hot Doc released the so-called 'Lagarde list' containing the names of some 2,000 Greeks with funds hidden in Swiss bank accounts.
­Greek police aim to detain Kostas Baxevanis, the owner and editor of Hot Doc, for alleged privacy violations from publishing the list of names dated to 2007. “Instead of arresting the tax evaders and the ministers who had the list in their hands, they are trying to arrest the truth and free journalism,” Baxevanis said in an interview published online.

Μπλόκο στην αξιοποίηση της λίστας Λαγκάρντ με τα ονόματα των 1.991 ελλήνων καταθετών στην HSBC Γενεύης υψώνουν οι Ελβετοί, όπως προκύπτει από τις δηλώσεις εκπροσώπου του ομοσπονδιακού υπουργείου Οικονομικών στην ελβετική εφημερίδα «Χάντελτσαϊτουνγκ»[1].

Όπως αναφέρεται στο ελβετικό δημοσίευμα, η λίστα Λαγκάρντ αναμένεται να επηρεάσει και τις διαπραγματεύσεις για τη σύναψη φορολογικής συμφωνίας μεταξύ Ελλάδας και Ελβετίας.

Eine CD mit Daten von griechischen Steuersündern ist wieder aufgetaucht. Griechenland wollte die Daten früher nicht nutzen, da sie illegal erworben worden waren. Inzwischen sieht Athen dies anders.

Griechenland kann seine Steuerflüchtlinge in der Schweiz nun doch aufspüren. Eine zunächst nicht auffindbare CD mit Daten von rund 2000 Besitzern von Bankkonten in der Schweiz sei wieder aufgetaucht und von der Abteilung für die Verfolgung von Wirtschaftsverbrechen (SDOE) einem Sonderstaatsanwalt übergeben worden, erklärte die griechische Justiz. 

"Wir waren zur falschen Zeit am falschen Ort"

Giorgos Papakonstantinou veröffentlichte als griechischer Finanzminister das wahre Staatsdefizit seines Landes – und löste damit die Krise aus. Würde er das noch mal tun?
ZEIT ONLINE: Herr Papakonstantinou, bedauern Sie Entscheidungen, die sie als griechischer Finanzminister getroffen haben?
Giorgos Papakonstantinou: Ich bereue nicht die großen Entscheidungen. Die Verbesserung unserer Wettbewerbsfähigkeit etwa oder das Vorhaben, dass wir unser Staatsdefizit in den Griff bekommen müssen. Es sind eher kleinere Beschlüsse, die ich bedauere.
